Today, China is a technological hub and a buzzing and bright country. It is a great place to visit for your vacations but did you know China does a few things differently than other countries. From windowless houses to TVs in the toilets, China has some really weird things that you will not find in any other country or any other place, anywhere in the world.
1. Rent a partner
Are you tired of hearing your relatives and parents constantly ask you about your love life and why you don’t have one? Are you tired of asking your friends to pretend to be your lover at family gatherings? Well, if you lived in China you could easily rent a handsome guy or a beautiful woman to pretend to be your boyfriend or girlfriend.

2. Protect your skin
You must be wondering why these two women are wearing those masks on a beach. The reason behind those masks is that Chinese people love their pale facial skin and don’t like getting tanned. This is where those masks come in handy. They may look odd and attract a bit of attention but you will not get tanned.

3. Spitting and burping
Spitting in public places is forbidden in many places and it is understandable. It is gross and disgusting but in China, there are some places where you cannot burp or spit. Spitting is understandable as it is a voluntary action but burping? You have no control over that and if you accidentally let out one then you will be looked upon with judgemental eyes.

4. Toilets with TV
You must have heard about some really weird and amazing toilets from around the world but have you heard about the one with a flat-screen TV? Well, in China, these things exist and are found even in public toilets. This is one way of discouraging people from using their phones in the toilet but we wonder how long do people just sit there?

5. You don’t tip in China
If you are reading this from any country in the world except China you may know that tipping in restaurants is generally a good thing and it is most appreciated. But in China, this is taken to be insulting and something not promoted. You should remember to never do this in any restaurant while visiting China.

6. Warm water 24×7
Chinese people believe a lot in the healing properties of hot water so you’ll easily find many stations where people can fill up on hot water. This is a cultural thing and can be found in many parts of China. You’ll normally see a long line of people here waiting for their turn to fill up on hot water.

7. Resourceful people
You should never forget that Chinese people are very resourceful and can make the best out of any situation. Case in point, look at this image, this man needed a break and decided to just rest in his trolley. The best thing about this is he isn’t sleeping on the pavement and obstructing the people around him.

8. Eating out
If you want to own a business in China, start a restaurant. Many reports have claimed that most Chinese families like eating out with their guests rather than inviting the guests to their home. This has been said to be even cheaper than preparing a meal at home for the guests.

9. Never cut a pear
When eating any fruit we usually cut it from the center even if we are having it ourselves. But in China, the one fruit you should never cut is the pear. You’re supposed to have this fruit whole and just the way it is. That is because, in China, the pear is a symbol of friendship and affinity and cutting it is a sign of disrespect.

10. Diet water
Yes, in China they have something called Diet Water. We’re not sure what nutrients we might find in this water and why it’s called diet water. This is one of the stranger products you’ll find in China and something that will make tourists scratch their heads in puzzlement. We also wonder what it tastes like.

11. Energy to you and your device
Yes, those are regular Snickers bars and yes, those are batteries included. If you’re wondering why they would include batteries in a pack of Snickers bars don’t worry, we’re wondering the same. This is a way to get yourself boosted up along with energy to your electronics. We have to say this is a great pack and we wish this was introduced everywhere else.

12. Hot and spicy beef candies
We all know the meme that China is known for its absurd foods and flavors and this is another example of that. Although hot and spicy beef candies are something we wouldn’t mind tasting and we have to admit, we are salivating at the idea of how it tastes.

13. Wet bathrooms
This has been said to be a hygiene related thing as all the bathrooms have wet floors even if the shower and bathtubs are dry. This is because the floors are usually walked on with bare feet and they might get dirty. So, went in the bathroom our feet get wet and in a way, they get washed.

14. New houses in China are windowless
Yes, believe it or not, but new houses in China are reportedly sold without windows. This means that the houses have places for windows to be fitted in but do not come pre-fitted with windows and the owner of the house can choose the type of window they would like to have in their new house.

15. The Chinese Rainbow Mountains
This is one of the few geological wonders of the world that has baffled scientists as they look like they’re from a different world and not like anything found on earth. It looks like tons of paint was thrown down these beautiful mountains to give them the type of color that mimics the rainbow.

16. Hire a person to go to jail for you
What is the wildest thing you can imagine your country having that other countries don’t? A get out of jail free card? Yes, in China if you belong to the well-off class of citizens you can hire a person who will confess the illegal crimes you have committed and will serve the jail sentence that will be sentenced by the judge or jury. This is called “ding zui”.
